Wow…this is a genuine made in UK Karrimor Hot Earth backpack that I bought off a bundle seller in KL recently. The pack I reckon is about 40 to 45 liters, in good condition and is definitelly a collectors item especially among the hard core Karrimor fan in Malaysia.

Karrimor has shifted most of its manufacturing to China. Can’t blame them. It’s probably way cheaper to produce it in China than in the UK. While it can be cheaper to produce the packs in China, unfortunately the trade-off has often been the quality. Karrimor pack as they say are no longer what they used to be.

I am not the biggest Karrimor fan. But having spot this one, I didn’t mind buying it to bring back and scrutinize it. It is always interesting to see how the ‘old school’ packs are made.

Lets start with the back panel of the pack. I would say it is very simple. Unlike the newer models with all sort of ‘technology’ this pack has a simple back panel with the shoulder straps sewn directly to the pack.

Almost all the modern packs these days comes with side compression strap. This Made In Uk Karrimor has side straps for compressing itself as well as for lashing in things. I guess back then, one can strap things like sleeping mat, walking sticks etc to the side.

I like the buckles and zippers on this Karrimor pack. Its difficult to find these types these days. Furthermore, note the Karrimor logo on the waist belt buckle. I believe Karrimor no longer uses this logo and this type of buckle.

My personal favorite...the logo and the system on the waist belt buckle is fantastic!

Well, the highlight of the pack would be of course…the inside tags. There are not 1 but 3 tags inside of this pack. 1 is located on the lid of the pack and the other 2 inside the pack at opposing locations. I wonder why they are made this way. I have a hunch the 2 tags represents 2 different segments/ sections of the pack that was sewn by 3 different people. With the 2 pieces, the final assembly sews the pack together and marked it with the 3rd tag. Just my theory.

Well, this pack would probably stay with me just for a short while. Like I said, I am no big Karrimor fan but I know a few mates who would not think twice grabbing it from me.
